Pamphlet Translations:

**The last period of each day (2:20-3:10) will be a “Subject Area Structured Support Time.” This time is for supplemental support, 1-1 extra help, and/or independent work on that subject’s assignments. Students attend their regularly scheduled class during last block; attendance will be taken. Remote learners are expected to sign onto the class at the start of the period. They may be dismissed to work asynchronously after checking in with the teacher. Also, students on IEPs and EL’s may meet virtually with support staff during this time for that subject area. If the student is up to date on all assignments for that subject, students can work on assignments for other classes, with teacher approval. Screens should only be used for school-related activities (no movies, games, etc.). We will provide guidance at a later date as to whether or not students will be allowed to listen to music

The new Wednesday schedule during hybrid learning has been slightly adjusted. Teacher office hours are now from 11:00 - 11:45. Lunch runs from 11:45 - 12:35. Clubs and activities run from 12:35-1:20. IB Program support follows, from 1:25-2:10, followed by another break from 2:10 - 2:20. Student Support meetings round out the day from 2:25-3:10.

Sturgis’s hybrid schedule allows for synchronous (occurring at the same time) learning for all students.

Students will be assigned a day of the week (M, T, Th, or F) to attend in-person.
WEDNESDAY will be a remote learning day for all while a mid-week deep clean occurs in our facilities. [Update 10/21: See updated Wednesday schedule above]
On the 3 learning days where the student is not attending in-person, that student will participate in live-streamed Google Meet classes.
Attendance is mandatory. Cameras are to be turned on (and remain on). Grading is via a typical A-F scale.
LUNCH: Students must bring a lunch when they come to school and carry it with them throughout the day. Orders for Little Sandwich Shop must be placed before 9 a.m.
MASKS: A reminder that masks must be worn throughout the school day.

If Sturgis needs to transition to a fully remote learning model during the year, the following information applies.

Schedule: Each student’s classes will meet on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday using a rotating class schedule.
During each class period: fully remote students will receive 40 minutes of live instruction via Google Meet, break-out discussion via Google Meet, and independent learning time.
Wednesdays: This day will be dedicated to asynchronous learning.
Lunch: may participate in co-curricular events via Google Meet.
Supplemental Support: Students and faculty can use this time for extra help, 1:1 meetings, small group meetings, and academic and social enrichment.

Due to the pandemic, we encourage families to explore alternatives to mass transportation, when possible.

Our Assistant Principals will communicate directly with eleventh and twelfth-grade students regarding the parking lottery. To be eligible for a parking pass, students must enter the parking lottery. For the time being, there will not be a fee for East students who get a parking pass for Town of Barnstable lots, nor for West students who get a parking pass for our West campus lot.

Yes. A fully remote learning option is available to any parent/guardian who does not wish to have their child return in person. A survey was emailed to all parents on Wednesday, August 12th. If you did not receive this email, please let us know via our inquiry form.

As of 8/21, 93% of parents have responded to the remote learning survey. Approximately 15% of our students will be learning fully remotely during the first quarter.

Students will have been notified by the beginning of September of their cohort. Approximately ¼ of each grade level will be in attendance on any given day.

Students will be allowed to enter the building at 8:00 am. Students will be expected to go to their first block class immediately upon entrance to the building. Classes will dismiss at 3:10 pm and all students will be asked to exit the building no later than 3:30 pm.

As of August 10th, there would be an average of 4 students per group in each classroom based on a 25% split. It is important to know that this is a fluid number that could change based on a student’s choice to attend vs. remain remote and student schedules.

Absolutely. The importance of this simple, albeit inconvenient, safety measure cannot be overstated. Masks affixed to the ears or strapped around the back of the head that cover the nose and mouth (and without exhalation valves) are to be worn by students and staff.

Please note: scarfs, bandanas, and pulled up turtlenecks or collars do not qualify as masks.

Beyond these requirements, the school does not endorse or require a particular mask although many medical experts recommend that you look for masks made with at least 2 layers of fabric with a bendable border at the top so you can mold the mask to fit the bridge of your nose. Exceptions to mask/face covering requirements must be made for those for whom it is not possible due to medical conditions, disability impact, or other health or safety factors. Medical documentation will be required.

We are creating a confidential Google form that students will need to fill out prior to visiting the nurse so we are apprised of their symptoms before they arrive. This allows for minimal disruption to class time, and increased confidentiality in the classroom setting. If a student asks to go to the nurse, the teacher will instruct the student to fill out the form prior to leaving the classroom; this form will include all symptoms related to COVID-19, so the School Nurse will know if it is necessary to usher them directly into isolation. In the event of an emergency, the student does not need to fill out the form. They should report directly to the Nurse’s office. School Nurses will provide training to staff to help them recognize signs of illness that students may not be reporting. Of course, any student who is feeling sick prior to coming to school should STAY HOME.

More information will be provided soon about the availability of co-curricular activities this year, including athletics, before and after school music programs, STAGE, etc.

529 Main will be used as a quiet study location for East and West students during hybrid learning who seek an alternate location on their assigned learn-from-home days. Sturgis personnel will monitor the building. A limited number of desks/seats will be available, and Sturgis will develop a way for parents/students to reserve a seat. This service will be available no earlier than Monday, September 28th. More information to follow.

We have created specific plans and instructions for our cleaning staff, in compliance with CDC/EPA guidance for cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces. All desks, chairs, restroom fixtures, and other high touch surfaces (light switches, doorknobs, banisters, etc.) will be cleaned nightly using these protocols. We are also in the process of hiring additional staff to help clean restrooms and high touch areas in shared/common spaces.

Each classroom will be provided with a spray bottle containing a >70% alcohol-based cleaning solution that staff can use to spray down desks in between class blocks. Classroom fixtures and high touch surfaces will be cleaned on a nightly basis by janitorial staff in accordance with the guidance set by the CDC/EPA to kill COVID-19. Restrooms will be cleaned frequently throughout the day by janitorial staff/porters.

Students will remain in their fourth-period classroom at 11:55 and eat their lunch in that room. Students must bring their lunch to school and carry it with them throughout the day. Students may participate in co-curricular events via Google Meet.
